Mangrove Trees Plantations, Returning Marine Life To The Ocean

It is well known that global warming and natural resource destruction have become nationals problem that need to be solved.
Therefore, Kimberly-Clark Thailand Ltd., has joined with the Thailand Environment Institute to organize an activity “Prevent Global Warming, Restore the Environment”, by leading a team of over 130 staffs to plant mangrove trees to help create a balanced eco—system and expand the area where marine life can breed around the Sattahip Naval Base in Chonburi. They also release the blue swimming crabs and fishes to the ocean.
Ukrish Kanchanaketu, Director-Corporate Affairs of Kimberly-Clark Thailand said, “The company had long recognized the importance of environmental conservation and this can be seen in the Company’s policy focusing on the 3Rs, which are Reduce, Replant and Recycle, including the use of wood pulp from plantation forests.
“Moreover, the company has cultivated awareness among our staff about environmental conservation by organizing annual social contribution activities. This year, Kimberly-Clark has had a great response from our people by having a large number of them joining the program.”
The activity “Prevent Global Warming, Restore the Environment” was conducted in a way that created many smiling faces and lots of fun. It started by having the whole team planting mangrove trees together. This will create a habitat for marine life and maintain a good source of nutrition. Mangrove trees also serve as a barrier that prevents erosion and protects the shore from storm surges.
They also released various types of fish and 50,000 blue swimming crabs into the sea to promote a balanced eco-system and increase marine life. The activity was closely supervised by a navy team who advised them on how to plant the mangrove trees and release marine life into the ocean.
Dr. Sanit Aksornkaew, President of the Thailand Environment Institute said, “The mangrove forest is a wonderfully rich eco-system. In the past, Thailand had a great deal of mangrove forest, but it has declined because the mangrove forest has been exploited by people for economic benefit. That has resulted in the decline of various marine life habitats and food sources.”
“The Thailand Environment Institute is an organization that oversees environmental issues. We have launched a campaign on mangrove forest planting around in provinces to increase the nutrition sources and habitats for marine life.”
The activity ended with a trip to the Ban Khao Baisri School in Chonburi to present computers, educational equipment and contribute funds to support the education to the children at the school.
Those who do not have the opportunity to plant mangrove trees to reduce global warming can still help by reducing the amount of energy they use, simply start by turning off all the lights in the areas that you are not using. |
