Put Play in Your Family's Day! Is your family dealing with the everyday stress and struggle to balance work, family and health? Being active helps children and parents better manage stress, succeed in school, reduce frustration, build energy and, most of all, learn skills that encourage a lifetime of activity. So, gather the family and play!
Avoid TV, video games and computers for at least 30 minutes after school. Once the kids get home, take a bike ride, walk or just play outdoors. It not only gets bodies moving, but also helps kids decompress before homework time.
Don't think of play time as wasted time. Play is as much a part of a healthy day as eating nutritious foods and brushing teeth. A regular dose of play can boost test scores, self-esteem and metabolism. So let your kids play every day – it'll help their homework!
Commit to spending time outdoors almost every day—rain or shine. Just getting the kids out the front door increases their opportunities for physical activity through play.

Play as a family. Get the family together and get active – shooting hoops before dinner, walking the dog or taking a Saturday morning bike ride to the park gets everyone moving and provides a great time for family togetherness.
Get creative and incorporate play into “necessity” activities. Your kids may hate visiting the doctor's office, but visit a park for 30 minutes on the way home and they'll surely enjoy the visit more. Tired of doing your same old errands? Walk or bike to nearby errands like the bank or post office, getting you out and also makes the errand more fun! Recruit the family for a Saturday morning clean up and crank up some music for a clean–the-house dance party.
