Additional Children, Young People and AIDS Campaign program accomplishments made possible by Kimberly-Clark include:
Development of the first Chinese National data system on children affected by AIDS, which is expected to help guide the development, implementation and monitoring of future activities supporting the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Initially established in four provinces, the Ministry of Civil Affairs subsequently scaled the system to serve all 30 Chinese provinces.
Implementation of the first study regarding the impact of AIDS on households, which provided much-needed data to help the Chinese government achieve the overall objectives of its Action Plan for Reducing and Preventing the Spread of HIV/AIDS (2006-2010). The study was conducted and published in a national report submitted to the United Nations in order to add to global data being collected on HIV/AIDS and to share the Chinese government’s learnings about the emotional and economic impact of HIV/AIDS with other program practitioners around the world.
Support for developing the first government policy for Children Affected by AIDS and opening discussions on developing the first Child Welfare System. These achievements will have far reaching affects on children impacted by the disease. This success story was presented as an example of leadership at the Bangkok Regional Forum on "Children and AIDS" so the program can be replicated in other countries.
Development of a training manual focused on community-based care and support of children and mothers living with HIV/AIDS for the local center for disease control and community committee members. A second project management guideline was developed to serve mothers living with HIV. The published guidelines will contribute to information being gathered as part of UNICEF’s global campaign against HIV/AIDS.
