Urban Platform Program Successes:

  • UNICEF is working with the families in the quilombolas community in Ceará to create a family health training course and workbook which incorporates the local child care culture.

  • In a quilombolas community in the state of Pernambuco, trainings on how to provide healthcare services to meet the needs of this population were held for all 107 health professionals of the municipality, 38 of whom will become nursing assistants in charge of providing direct health care services to the communities.

  • 26 families in the community also received training on ensuring children's health care in their first six years.

  • In the Ticuna territory in the Amazon region, a full health care primer for children up to six years old and their mothers began to be prepared in the Ticuna language with help from local partners.

  • Indigenous Health Agents adapted the information contained in a child development education kit for families according to the indigenous culture. The primer will be used in nine municipalities located in the Alto Solimões do Amazonas region.
