In 2001, Kimberly-Clark became a national supporter of YMCA of the USA through a multi-year alliance supporting programs to strengthen America’s families.

This alliance led to K-C’s becoming one of the first organizations to support Activate America®, the YMCA’s response to our nation’s growing health crisis, focused on making healthy living a reality for millions of American families. K-C funding helped the YMCA transform itself to better serve “health seekers” in their pursuit of health and well-being. As part of its Activate America support, in 2005, 2006 and 2007, K-C contributed to YMCA Healthy Kids® Day, the nation’s largest health day for children, which is celebrated with families. This annual event involves more than 600,000 children and families in 1,700 YMCA communities across the country. Rounding out its support of Activate America, K-C served as a National Presenting Sponsor of the Pioneering Healthier Communities initiative in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Complementing its support of health and well being through Activate America were K-C “Family Grants” in 2003, 2004 and 2005, designed to strengthen existing initiatives or launch innovative new programming at YMCAs in support of America's families. In 2006 and 2007, K-C launched a new type of outreach grant—“Everyday Healthy Day Grants”—to YMCAs in K-C communities. These grants provided support for innovative community-based programs addressing health and wellness.

In line with its objective to strengthen America’s families, K-C has also been a strong supporter of YMCA Adventure Guides, a program offered in YMCAs across the country designed to strengthen the relationship between a parent and a child. YMCA Adventure Guides focuses on supporting and strengthening the ability of a parent and his or her child to communicate at an early age in ways that are caring, honest, respectful and responsible.

In 2008, K-C’s Huggies® Little Swimmers® business made a contribution to support YMCA parent and child water enrichment programs in communities nationwide. This support has allowed 100 YMCAs to enhance or implement parent/child swim classes, with a special emphasis on low-income and underserved communities.
