Kimberly-Clark employees pull together for a successful national United Way campaign
Despite a challenging economic year for the country and millions of individual families, Kimberly-Clark employees across the U.S. donned their creative hats in late 2009 and designed campaigns that raised more than $5.5 million for the only charity we support with a U.S.-wide workplace giving effort: the United Way.

Under the national Kimberly-Clark campaign theme of LIVE UNITED: NOW MORE THAN EVER, campaign teams at 31 K-C locations organized informational meetings, employee volunteer days and numerous fundraising events to help employees learn more about what the United Way does for its communities, give them an opportunity to volunteer their time for a good cause, and inspire them to make a donation.
This year’s campaign was one of the most successful in the history of the company’s support of the United Way. K-C’s nearly 14,000 U.S. employees contributed almost $2.6 million in gifts and pledges to the organization. These donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Kimberly-Clark Corporation. In addition, employees at these facilities raised another $400,000 from special events – golf tournaments, festivals, carnivals, live and silent auctions, pie-throwing contests, road rallies and more – to engage employees, provide another way for them to give, and make supporting the United Way fun.

Throughout the past 35 years, Kimberly-Clark has embraced the United Way on a corporate level and, more importantly, across the U.S. in its local mills and plants where employees join together annually to raise money for their local United Way chapters. This fundraising is an opportunity for employees to give back to the families in each community as the money raised is used to assist local United Way-funded organizations. In the past 35 years, Kimberly-Clark has helped the communities in which it lives and works through tens of millions dollars in donations to United Way chapters across the country.

“As you might imagine, this year the United Way was caught between donors who were not able to give as they have in the past, and an increasing need for social services,” said Tom Falk, chairman and CEO of Kimberly-Clark. “I believe that when the need is great, companies like ours that can do more, should do more. This year our Kimberly-Clark team rallied behind our favorite cause, rolled up our sleeves, and had a great United Way campaign. Kimberly-Clark has always been, and continues to be a company that’s committed to helping others and improving lives in our communities.”
