The China Association of Social Workers awarded Kimberly-Clark China a 2008 China Corporate Citizenship Award, marking the second consecutive year the company has earned this honor. Kimberly-Clark China was selected based on its integrated corporate social responsibility program titled Care and Love, and its outstanding sustainability management policies. Only 50 companies out of 1,000 nominated received the award, which was presented during the fourth annual general assembly of the China Corporate Citizenship Committee (CCCC) and China's Corporate Citizenship Forum.
Care and Love is the primary principle of Kimberly-Clark China’s corporate culture. Originating as an internal communications theme, it has extended to practices of product design, environmental protection and community relations. As a part of Care and Love, Kimberly-Clark China participates in several community outreach programs, including support for a local foster home, giant panda protection and earthquake disaster relief. K-C China also has implemented numerous sustainability programs that improve employee wellness and environmental stewardship.
To determine award winners, the CCCC, together with corporate social responsibility experts from Tsinghua University in Beijing, conducts surveys in ten areas: corporate business development, employee wellness, code of conduct, government and customer relationship, supplier management, intellectual property protection, community support, environmental stewardship and sustainability practices.
The China Association of Social Workers is a nationwide non-governmental organization officially approved by the Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs. The nonprofit organization was founded in October 2003, and aims to foster the development of corporate citizenship and corporate social responsibility in China through strengthening the dialog between businesses, government agencies and society.
